Who is Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology?

Established in 1928, Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology has trained over 100,000 pilots and technicians. We have campuses located in the following areas: Tulsa, OK; Los Angeles, CA; Inland Empire, CA; and Denver, CO. Spartan students have come from across the United States and over 62 countries.

Aviation Maintenance Technology

The program is designed to teach students the technical skills required to service, repair, and overhaul aircraft components and systems. The general education courses in the associate degree program enhance the students’ background and critical thinking. Successful completion qualifies graduates to take the written, oral, and practical tests with the FAA for the Mechanic’s Certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant Ratings. 

 

Spartan College Los Angeles Area Campus Highlights

This campus is conveniently located on Aviation Boulevard only about a mile from LAX airport. The training at this location is focused on Aviation Maintenance Technology. Our programs are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and meet the requirements established in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 14, Part 147. The programs are designed to teach students entry-level technical skills in airframe and powerplant.

The technical facilities at our Los Angeles area campus can accommodate approximately 500 students. Classrooms occupy in excess of 19,000 square feet and labs occupy an area of 40,000 square feet. Spartan College features an array of industry-relevant training aids that include, but are not limited to:

  • Reciprocating and turbine powerplants
  • Variety of carburetors, magnetos, turbochargers, and propellers
  • Sheet metal shop containing brakes and shears
  • Press and pneumatic drill
  • Riveting equipment
  • Shops used for the study of wood, fabric, fiberglass, Plexiglas, and composites
  • Aircraft electricity lab
  • Additional equipment used to study aircraft navigation, flight and communication instruments

Airframe & Powerplant

A&P technicians keep aircraft in safe flying condition by servicing, repairing and overhauling aircraft components following stringent regulations set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)and the aircraft manufacturer. Technicians in this field work on aircraft components and systems including airframe, piston engines, turbine engines, hydraulic systems, propellers, rigging, warning systems, and environmental systems.

 

Accreditation

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology located in Inglewood, California campus (Los Angeles area) is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE). The Riverside, CA Campus is a branch of the Inglewood Campus.

Our History

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology was founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma as Spartan School of Aeronautics by W.G. Skelly, President of Skelly Oil Company, on September 27, 1928. He established Spartan Aircraft Company and formed the corporation which built Tulsa Municipal Airport (now called Tulsa International Airport).
